In previous years, we have used several unique designs that gave us a competitive edge against other teams. Last year, in CENTERSTAGE, we used a unique conveyor belt to pick up pixels. For the POWERPLAY challenge, we used a scissor lift with a cam design, while most other teams used drawer slides and a claw to pick up cones. Similarly, we created a unique bucket design in FREIGHT FRENZY. We always try to go for a unique design that reflects the spirit of the team, rather than just what's easiest.
We started in 2019, during the SKYSTONE challenge. All of our members were from FLL and wanted something more. This year, they achieved much, building a Tech Challenge robot for the first time, and even winning the Judges award at state! They then gained experience that would be shared for years.
Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, the team was unable to compete during the ULTIMATE GOAL season.
But in 2021, we were back at it, designing a unique robot for FREIGHT FRENZY. We were in the winning alliance at the Park City qualifier, and were 2nd place for the Innovate award at state.
The next year, for the POWERPLAY season, we once again designed a unique robot; one of the only teams to use a scissor lift. At qualifiers, we won the Innovate award, were in a winning alliance, and won 3rd place for the Design award.
We finished out the CENTERSTAGE season with a 2nd place Innovate award at State. Again, our robot was unique, creative, and powerful. It was one of the simplest and cleverest robots at the competition, and still was able to complete all game tasks.
Our team plans to step up our game for the next season! We will take all we have learned and apply it, to both make another great robot gain real-world experience.
